Q5) What is adding and taking away from The Revelation of Jesus Christ?
A) The Revelation of Jesus Christ is about His coming back. (Rev. 1:7; 3:11; 22:7, 12, 20)
"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star..." (Rev. 22:16)
Jesus sent an angel to John to testify of the events making up His second coming. (Rev. 7:9-14; 10:1-7; 19:11-21; 21:9-10) This book has a sober warning for anyone hearing the words of this prophecy.
"For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book." (Rev. 22:18)
Anyone adding to this prophecy will receive the plagues written in The Revelation of Jesus Christ.
"And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city..." (Rev. 22:19)
Anyone taking away from this prophecy God will take away their part from the Book of Life (Rev. 3:5; 21:9-10). Only the names of the saved are written in the Book of Life (Phil. 4:13, Rev. 21:27). Which means any saint adding or taking away from this prophecy will be removed from the Book of Life (Rev. 3:5; 13:7).
"Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." (Rev. 21:2)
The holy city is the New Jerusalem where the bride will be for eternity (Rev. 21:9-10). Any believer taking away from the words in this prophecy will lose their part in the holy city forever. In his vision, John saw the events before, during, and after the coming of the Lord. We aren't told what represents adding or taking away. After studying the warnings to hear and overcome, three deceptions really stand out.
1. Anyone teaching the gifts of the Holy Spirit have passed away is taking away from the prophecy of Revelation. (Rev. 2:7; 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22)
2. Anyone teaching blood washed saints will be caught up (raptured) before the Great Tribulation begins is taking from the prophecy of Revelation. (Mat. 24:21-22, 1 Thes. 4:17, Rev. 7:9-14)
3. Anyone teaching the saints overcome in these last days are still saved is taking away the prophecy of Revelation. (Rev. 13:7; 3:5; 14:9-10)
