"For the time will come when they will not endure sound
doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears,
they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away
from the truth..." (2 Tim. 4:3-4)
In the above prophecy, the apostle Paul is addressing believers
living right now. It's heartbreaking to see so many Christians who once
believed in sound doctrine. Because of their selfish desires they are yearning
for something more than the truth. This is why teachers are giving them what
their itching ears want to hear. They're being offered the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-16). This type of
teaching is not from the Father. The more one lusts after the things of the
world the less they will love Christ. Don't be deceived, there is no way one
can love the world and fellowship with Jesus at the same time (1 Cor. 1:9).
