"And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near." (Luke 21:25-28)

        Understanding the timing of His coming also mattered to Peter, James, John, and Andrew (Mark 13:3). That's why they wanted to know the sign of His coming. Jesus told them the events to watch for before He comes back in the clouds and gathers His elect (Mat. 24:3-33). A great multitude of saints from every nation will be rejoicing when they see the heavens go dark (Rev. 7:9-14). They will know their great God and Savior Jesus Christ will soon gloriously appear and physically deliver them from the wrath to come.
